Established over a decade ago, the Eritrean community in Zurich has long represented a strong and resilient presence among the city’s diverse cultural landscape. While past years have seen limited social engagement, the community is now entering a new chapter; one marked by renewed energy, purpose, and visibility.
Looking ahead, the community is investing in the next generation through language programs tailored for youth born in Switzerland, alongside broader capacity-building initiatives. These efforts aim not only to preserve cultural heritage, but also to foster inclusion, leadership, and a sense of belonging for Eritreans in Zurich and beyond.
Mother Language Classes for Children

The Eritrean Mother Language Class in Zurich aims to preserve the cultural identity of Eritrean children born or raised in Switzerland by developing proficiency in native languages such as Tigrinya, Arabic, Tigre, and Bilen. It promotes Eritrean values, traditions, and history across all communities while fostering social skills, multilingual growth, and a strong connection to heritage. At the same time, it supports integration into Swiss society through strengthened competence in the German language and intercultural understanding for life in a globalized world.
Facilitating and strengthening the Eritrean Community.
With the goal of strengthening its identity among other African communities and within Swiss society, the community is embracing a more active role in social and intercultural life. It is committed to promoting cultural interaction through participation in civic events, as well as by organizing its own initiatives such as sports activities, art exhibitions, and community gatherings. These efforts aim to enhance the community’s image as one built on hard work, discipline, and mutual respect for all.
Community activities
The community is embarking in enhancing its communal activities by organizing civic events, that encourages its members to participate in presenting its cultural heritages in arts, fine arts, cuisines, sports and educational programs. Upcoming activities and community plans will be announced soon on this website and newsletters that will be sent out to subscribers.
Social Events
Our community will also renew its social engagements with other communities in the city of Zürich and the surrounding communes. Its planning to showcase the richness of its cultural heritage, through various public and social media outlets, and organize events to present the hidden inner beauty of its moral and social disciplines.
